Soad Hosny Al Baba was born in Cairo, Bulaq to a family who was active in the art community. Her father is Mohamed Hosny al-Baba who was a renowned calligrapher noted for contributing embroidered script to the Holy Kaba. Her sister is a musician named Nagat. So’ad’s career began at a young age and her talents were first noticed by Abd Al Rahman Al Khameisy. She has portrayed various roles and was dubbed (Cindrella of the Screen). Hosny ranked second in the Egyptian poll for best actress of the 20th century and appeared in no less than eight movies listed in the 'Top 100 of Egyptian films', compiled in 1996 in celebration of the centenary of Egyptian cinema. Soad has practiced singing and acting, she is self-taught and speaks both French and English. On television she has performed in the tv series (Howa wa Heyya). she aslo received various awards along her career for being in movies such as (al Houb al Lazi Kan ), (Ghroub wa Shorouq), (Ayn Aqly), (Shafiqa wa Metwally) and (Maw’id ‘ala al ‘Ashaa). She is considered by some to be the only actress that rivaled Fatten Hammama as the premier actress of the twentieth century. Her performances were outstanding from the outset and her career displayed a mix of talents manifested in acting, singing and modeling. It should be noted that her career in modeling was among the longest in comparison to other models. Soad is remembered as the quiet country girl who was endearing to viewers. She can be observed in her best form in (Sagheera ‘ala al Houb ), (al-Qahira 30 ), (Khally Balak Men Zuzu) and Youssef Chahine's (Al Ikhtiyar). in 2001 So'ad Hosny died in a falling accident from a building in London, and the real cause of her death is still unknown.
